About Us
In 2000, Al and Cathy, along with their children, Tom and Patti, created the Annexstad Family Foundation Scholarship program. The program provides scholarships to deserving Little Brothers and Littlle Sisters who have bright minds, big dreams, and little means to make their dreams of a college education a reality.
Following the loss of their parents, both Al and Cathy benefited immensely from the intervention of caring adult mentors early in life. Years later, they decided to give something back. Al and Cathy chose to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) becauseit is the largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. The mission of BBBS is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors.
National research shows that a positive relationship between a child and their mentor has a direct and measureable impact on that child’s life. Little Brothers and Sisters:
- Are more confident in their schoolwork
- Get along better with their families
- Are 46% less likely to use illegal drugs
- Are 27% less likely to use alcohol
- Are 52% less likely to skip school
