Shiv Patel

Shiv studied abroad to see what was beyond everything he already knew. Throughout his undergraduate career Shiv has had the opportunity to take his learning beyond Chapel Hill to Singapore, London, and Bangkok. Each opportunity gave him the chance to experience new cultures, perspectives, and people that reshaped how he sees things. 

When choosing his programs, he was drawn to experiences that felt unique and out of the ordinary. Singapore stood out because of its strong connection with UNC Chapel Hill and the National University of Singapore, while London and Bangkok offered entirely different cultural environments that he wanted to explore during his time in college. Each destination gave him a different lens on the world while still feeling supported through structured study abroad opportunities. 

Being abroad also gave Shiv a chance to step away from his usual academic routine and take everything in. He built meaningful friendships with people from around the world and spent time exploring new countries and cultures, experiences that became just as important as what he learned in the classroom. One of his favorite memories was traveling to Palau, a place that left a lasting impression and remains one of his favorite destinations. 

His advice is simple. Do it. Studying abroad is not just about traveling, it is about learning more about yourself and the world around you.
