Amari Troutt, a recent graduate of Gonzaga University and Spokane native, has left a legacy through her leadership, advocacy, and commitment to creating inclusive spaces. Her journey is one of purpose as she followed in the footsteps of her grandparents, both Gonzaga alumni.

As a sports management major and president of the Black Student Union (BSU), Amari transformed the organization into a dynamic platform for cultural celebration and student empowerment. She launched the “Grill and Chill,” an annual barbecue uniting students across Spokane-area colleges, and revitalized the BSU’s annual dinner with vibrant themes like “Soul Train” to honor Black culture.

Amari also laid the foundation for a BSU alumni network and forged partnerships with local media, such as The Black Lens, amplifying Black voices and building stronger community ties.

As a proud Annexstad Family Foundation scholar, Amari exemplifies the Foundation’s mission of investing in young leaders who use their education to uplift others. Her work reflects AFF’s core belief: that every young person deserves the opportunity to lead, thrive, and build stronger communities.
